Marrung - First Nations Education Strategy 2026 - 2036

The Marrung strategy ensures that all First Nations Victorians are supported to achieve their learning goals.

Koorie Families, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students

Eastwood is committed to delivering the best possible education to our Koorie, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. The Victorian Government, through the Department of Education and Training, has worked with the Victorian Koorie community to develop Marrung.

Marrung; First Nations Education Strategy 2026 - 2036 will ensure that Koorie families, and Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people from other parts of Australia who live in Victoria, have the doors held wide open to all learning and development services, from early childhood onwards. https://www.vic.gov.au/marrung#marrung-2026-2036

We aspire for success for every Koorie child in education, achieving their developmental potential and their ambitions for life.

Eastwood also has a Koorie education Support Officer (KESO) that visits the school to support cultural education programs.

nyuka-yangga is a visual representation of the ‘Marrung 2026–2036 First Nations Education Strategy’, and the education journey from early childhood to tertiary pathways. Red and ochre streams represent the guiding principles of self-determination, advancing systemic transformation, and cultural safety and responsiveness. Connected symbols reflect the strategy’s six priorities: workforce capacity and capability; First Nations leadership and partnership; First Nations languages; curriculum and teacher practice; learner engagement, participation and voice; and transitions and pathways. Blue waterways connect these elements, while Murray cod symbolise partnership between the department and community. Gathering places and repeated linework acknowledge Elders sharing knowledge, culture and support through consultation, listening and connection.
